Rw rates the tested doorset, not the leaf alone — and the weakest gap sets the result.

Reaching about 45 dB Rw (ISO 10140) means building and sealing the complete doorset: a dense, multi-layer acoustic core for mass; a continuous airtight line of compression seals on head and jambs; an automatic drop seal closing the threshold when shut; acoustic-rated, sealed hardware with no open undercut; and a frame designed and installed to the same rating. Guestroom doors commonly target 35–45 dB Rw depending on brand standard and adjacency. The same doorset can be combined with a fire rating.

What Rw actually means

Rw is a single-number rating of how much airborne sound a doorset reduces, in decibels — higher is quieter. It describes the tested doorset (leaf + frame + seals), not the leaf alone, and is governed by the weakest path: one unsealed gap can undo a heavy leaf.

Sealed frame, no flanking path

The leaf is only half the result — a frame matched to the leaf rating and sealed to the wall removes the flanking path. KENT designs and seals the frame to the same number, and a ventilation undercut is replaced by a ducted, attenuated air path.
