Are these durable to wood doors?Yeah,Laminate and Thermofoil

February 21, 2008 – 2:16 am

I want to know wether they are druable to wood doors….

Was wandering if the laminate or thermofoil doors have disadvantages over wood doors. Will they tarnish easily or turn yellow, or peel easily, etc?

Any one can give me help?

Answer:

First the Laminate will most likely chip over time. In regards to the thermofoil doors, i had a customer with the exact questions and craftsmaid cabinets offer a lifetime finish on their doors from turning yellow or peeling. However, if you drop something on it and you damage it, you have to replace it. Wood doors will last a live time with proper care and maintenance. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions or want to see some pictures of the job where she chose those white cabinets.

My old door can not hold the door farme!

February 20, 2008 – 5:19 am

My old wood door can not hold the door farme!

The door farme can not be attached becasue the wood is so old and it cant get a hold. How can I fix this problem without changing the frame?

Its an old frame but the well designed frame would most likely be expensive to fabricate.

Answer:

Scarf a new length of timber into the rebate where the hinge is, say 10 inches long, sand down and re-paint. With a little love it’ll look as good as new and last another age. message me if you would like more info.

Regards to Cynthia, I refer to the rebate in the door jamb, and filling the old screw holes with filler will not help re-attach the door for any length of time. sounds a bit bodgy really…

I want to know what are these on the door made of woord.

February 20, 2008 – 5:15 am

I have seen some thing hang on your door that are usually made of wood.

I think they are kind of like wind chimes for your door

Thay cover the entry way of your door with a picture. the strands of wood each have a design and if you look at all the pieces it makes a picture

Answer:

I believe you are talking about a bamboo curtain, simular to the beaded curtains used in many mid eastern homes.
The curtain is made of short 1-2 inch pieces of bamboo strung on sturdy cord and then many strings are hung from a top piece . The curtain is sometimes laid flat and a picture is sprayed or painted on it. The individual string of bamboo beads looks like it has random dabs of paint, but when hung as a group they dipict a scene. Often a parrot or palm tree.
You can often find them at stores like Pier One.

Do you know any good heavy paint removal for wood doors?

February 19, 2008 – 4:03 am

Yeah I want to know some good stripping product for wood doors.

I have a wood door and try to refinish it (one side only) but cannot find a stripping or paint removal product that is working. The paint or stain that is on there now is very heavy and have tried sanding but it is starting to flatten door is some areas and the stain or paint that is currently on there is not coming off or lightening up any. Please help! - Trying to do this on own and it is starting to become costly. Would appreciate any advice on products that would help me.

Answer:

“ZIP STRIP”, you can’t do it in one shot, it takes several applications of the product, put it on quickly with an old brush, and in a few seconds you will see everything start to bubble off, put newspaper on the floor, or better yet, use it outside, as fumes may be strong, and it will be very messy with gobs of paint and stripper coming off, a cardboard box works well as a recepticle to throw away the melting paint/varnish, you will need gloves too as it may be irratating if it comes in contact with the skin.. china manufacturer desk Use a 2″ scraper to peel off the bubbled up varnish/paint when it starts to bubble up after application. After 2 or three times you’ll be down to the bare wood, then you can start sanding. It works pretty quickly, have lots of rags handy. then stain the wood, and apply polyurathane “Exterior type”, use a good stain and poly such as “ZAR”, a bit pricey but, it won’t skid, it makes a great finish, and saves work,it is “MARINE” GRADE rated. Be careful, wood finishing can become relaxing and addicting. If you choose the mechanical method of stripping the wood (SAND PAPER, scraping, etc.) you’ll be there for weeks.

Any one know who manufacturer the resturants wood door?

February 15, 2008 – 2:37 am

Who manufactures the wood doors w/metal frames that chipotle uses in their resturants?

I am now looking for alluminum/metal frame with wood window door.

Answer:

It is not easy to say. That is a fire rated door(speced), and the metal frame as well.

So this would be a particular door, and it may be a special design for chipotle, although this would be a problem, but a door and window manufacturer might be able to find something close and hang it on a metal frame.

How to fix this paint?

January 29, 2008 – 2:05 am

My cat likes to scratch the paint, and some of the wood of the door, any one can assist me to fix it?

My cat always ran and jumped - then sort of hung on - over and over again - i’m moving out soon, and need to fix it so that a) it looks better and b) my landlords don’t find out a cat did it.

Answer:

Okay, so this happened to me right before I moved out of a really classy downtown loft, and I freaked out. It was probably worse with me because it was a DOG with big thick DOG CLAWS that did it. So I looked around like crazy for anything to fix it… and all I came up with was some Goo-be-gone cleaner. I put that on, and it made it shiny and took the discoloration away. That is what you should do if the door is natural color, only use real furniture polish instead of orange-oil cleaner!

If the door is painted white, it’s still easy. Get some SPACKLE and a little putty knife at any store that sells paint supplies. Take a look when it’s dry — if the scratches are small again, you might not have to repaint at all if the door is white. If you do have to repaint, go to a store like Lowe’s or Home Depot and get one of their cheap cans of paint that they made mistakes custom mixing that is close to matching — this is much cheaper than buying brand new retail paint. Just make sure to get the right sheen — if your door is shiny, you need to get gloss or satin paint, not flat. Then get one of the smallest black sponge painters on a stick they have for about 50 cents. Take your paint home, get your sponge wet, and dip the very edge into the paint so that there is just barely any on the sponge. With that, cover up just the scratched part, and blend it in with the rest of the door — perfect!
