How to replace my cabinet door?

February 27, 2008 – 12:27 am

My door of my under sink kitchen cabinet door has come off splitting the wood at the hinge, please?

ive been tokd the whole side of cabinet needs replacing(but icannot afford to do this)

Answer:

Your comments don’t indicate whether the door or the frame is split; however, provided the wood is still in good condition, you should be able to remove the hinge and reglue the split wood together. Once it has dried, screw the hinge back in and it should be go to go, since the cabinet door isn’t a load bearing article. If the frame has split, you can do the sam thing - glue it together. If you can’t use a clamp, secure the wood with masking tape while it dries computer desk manufacturer. This is the simple answer without being able to see the exact damage. Good luck to you.

How to cover the glass to my front entry door?

February 27, 2008 – 12:22 am

Where can I find something to cover the glass to a front entry door with out damaging the wood.?

I do not want people to see light in side the house.

Answer:

There is a solution, window frosting that makes the window look frosted rather than just plain glass. This solution works very well when you want to keep the light but distort the view. You could probably pick up a kit at Home Depot or Lowes, or have a handyman do it for your computer desk.

Is it ok square up to the door?

February 27, 2008 – 12:18 am

Wood floor racking and positioning question.

I’m laying my first floor next weekend and I plan on putting a peice underneath and horizontal across the entry door. That said, I was planning on racking the rest of the floor so that the pieces that meet the door come in at an exact 90 degree angle. Visually this would make everything look straight across the room when you enter. The problem is we’ve found that our main vertical wall is off by over three inches on the far end. I prefer to have the difference on the wall but what’s the best practice here? Should I miter a single peice for down the wobbly wall (and keep my 90 degree angle at the door) or should I line up the rack with the wall and miter an angle for each peice the touches the door?

Answer:

We think it should be squared to the door because the wall may not be straight and looking into the room from the door will look better. This is only an opinion we are not experts.

Can you suggestion the best material for sliding pation door?

February 24, 2008 – 9:23 pm

I am looking for a new sliding patio door.Which material would be better? Steel, vinyl, aluminum or wood?

Do you have issues with the blinds in-between the window? Now most sliding patio doors have this!

Is it hard to install a sliding patio door if it comes pre-hung or is it best to hire a pro?

I would have to take out my existing sliding patio door.
Is it hard to install a sliding patio door if it comes pre-hung or is it best to hire a pro?

Answer:

I am a pro and I can tell you it is hard to install any door but a patio door is by far the hardest.

The inside blinds are like anything else, there is no best answer, just preferences. If you want the window treatment out of the way and kids are not going to wreck the mechanism, the internal blinds are useful.

About the heat resistant seal….

February 22, 2008 – 8:51 pm

Whrere to buy this kind of door? with the seal of wood burner. or where can i buy a heat resistant seal from?

Answer:

Check your yellow pages for a place that sells wood stoves…….or check on line for that matter.

there is a cord like door seal that comes in lengths you cut and glue around the door with some special glue. We had a Little Buck that we had to replace the seal on.

The cord looks like a woven rope, if that helps.

What is the fair price for this old house?

February 22, 2008 – 8:46 pm

What is a fair price for a wood storage shed 12×36 it has an entrance wood door and 4 regular house windows?

This 3 years old building has never been used. The owner of the building is going to move. So I want to know what is a fair price for this building. It looks like a med. size trailer. This is all wood and has been nailed not stapled.

If you need more information let me know. And hope you can give me suggestion. We really want to buy a own house at this time.

Answer:

I suggest you call some manufacturers who make similiar storage buildings and get some price quotes for new ones, including delivery costs. That gives you something to work with.

Even if he moves it for free [a considerable expense when you buy a used one andhave to pay extra for it] - if it is in top condition - you can expect to pay a pretty penny for it as it is larger than usual. In our area [s.e. GA] if it has been finished, insulated, with internal siding and electric outlets etc. expect to pay between 4 and 6K, possibly more depening on condition.

A thing to be aware off - if you are renting - check with your landlord first to make sure he will allow you putting it on the property. Also keep in mind that you will need to get it moved again when you are moving…

If it is your own property - keep in mind access - it will come on a large truck and if you are fenced in and have a narrow drive - it may not be able to get to the location on the property where you want it. You may have to dismantle fencing, remove trees, damage plantings etc. to bring it through your property to the location you want it at.

Lastly - ask for any garantees or repairs if it should be damaged in the process - which can easily happen during loading and unloading, especially if it is a homebuild one… I have bought 2 that were ready made and in one [the larger one 12×20] the floor
boards cracked and I ended up with a leak in the roof - but as I bought them new from the manufaturer, they took care of the damages. Sometimes it is better to buy new and pay a tad more, but have garantees, than to get one uses and have problems all around with it.

How can we win this conflict?

February 22, 2008 – 8:41 pm

These days we are conflicting with the landlord over bad trim and wood doors.

my landlord has this wierd thing about the trim and wood in the house were renting. he wont let us paint over it. The wood door really looks bad.

I just want to paint it with a solid color to make it into a better look.

we plan on buying the house were renting. were young and saving the money for the down payment. the lanlord is wierd about some improvements then others. he used alot of cheap stuff through out it.

Answer:

Rub some “Olde English” Oil into all of it with a dry rag. Big, Big Improvement hiding all the scratches and chingers in trim and doors, just match the color up, rub it in, and buff a little afterward. Re-Apply on extremely damaged wood. Hides alot.

Will it work if I jet wash my living room first?

February 22, 2008 – 8:36 pm

I think this would work, but like to get some openion from you.

i want to jetwash my living room floor (wood) then sweep the water out the door.

Answer:

Thats a first! jet wash your laminate floor!
Not a good idea, you will cause lots of damage and could kill yourself. Electricity and water, just think about it.
Just wash the floor by hand.
have you ever seen the damage caused by floods?
Why not jet wash the inside of your car too? at least you cant kill yourself as the electricity in cars is only 12 volts.
Please ring the Samaritans before you have any more ideas for killing yourself.
If your still going to to this stupid thing, turn of the electricity to the house first, and wait at lest six months before turning it on again.

Is there any way and any one can help me fixing it?

Answer:

it could be the door, you may need to sand it down some or plane it,or the door guide might need lubricating,or you might have to adjust door guide.

thanks! i’m hoping all it needs is some lubrication. if not i might just need to plane or sand it down. i’ll check the door guide too as you suggested.
