Can we have a steel house today?

February 15, 2008 – 2:50 am
Would it be possible to make a steel house, not a steel reinforced house but a steel boxed shape with steel windows and steel doors cut out and cladded with wood so that it looks nice. Surely it would be very safe and if it got caught up in a landslide you can just sit it in and enjoy the ride.

I think the following point must be considered because they are so important to the steel house.
It would also be storm proof and if thought about properly could also be flood proof and rust proof

Answer:

Absolutely Willow! Please do a search for ‘container city’ and look for similar links - most people make their steel home from old shipping containers; the ones you see coming off the back of ships and going onto the back of lorries. They make great homes, can easily be converted to add windows and doors, and can be welded together… I want one myself! Yes they are very safe, secure, solid, and the seaboard ones are waterproof!

Which kind of kind of garage door material better?

February 15, 2008 – 2:46 am

What type of garage door is best for my home if I have an attached garage?

Right now I have a heavier oak door and I am worried that it might be causing wall cracks above it because of the weight of the door. Should I switch to fiberglass or steel or just leave it?
the crack is on the upper top right of the frame of the door and extends to the ceiling

Answer:

In answer to your first question. The doors that are on my garage are the best. You should use them.

Wall cracks are not caused by doors, generally. They are caused by foundation settling. Look for cracks in your slab at or near where the cracks are. If the crack is in the middle of the door, the framing is poor and needs to be beefed up.

How can faux wood finish a steel door?

January 7, 2008 – 1:33 am

I just brought a new steel door recently. And my friends said that saw a steel door that was faux finish to look wood.

Now I also hear a lot of people talking about paint on steel door really peels.

Can you tell me how to do it?

Answer:

Yes, you can do it. First you should need a faux graining tool.It is a rubber, I believe, maybe plastic, curved piece with a handle. You apply either paint or stain with it. You randomly rock the the tool back and forth to create the effect of wood. You may want to practice on a scrap piece of painted drywall or plywood, first. Then let dry completely. Needless to say, don’t wipe the stain off. You may want to use an under coat of paint to create a deeper effect. Probably lighter than the faux finish. Also important use a spray on polyurethane to seal. I usually suggest varnish, but any brush work after the finish will pull the finish off or at least distort it.

I suggest you go to the store, they will give you some professional idea.
