Do my garage door opener require the battery?

January 20, 2008 – 10:00 pm

My garage door openers is with battery backup, does it require the battery to be working?

I am thinking to buy a craftman 3/4 hp garage door opener with battery backup. I assume the battery will eventually fail. I’m wondering if the opener will still function without the battery or will I have to rush out an buy a new battery right away.

Answer:

Your garage door opener will still work. i’ve done many service calls on these openers and found the battery system had failed but the homeowner didn’t even know it because the opener was still running.

How to stop the snow getting into the garage door edges?

January 17, 2008 – 7:11 am

My garage door is so tight with the framework. There is probably 1/2 inch between the frame and the door. The door it has been 18 years old, is a vinyl, insulated type with the traditional 6 squares on each section that bends. Is there a particular weatherstripping that could fill this gap and still allow the door to go up and down without catching on it. I would assume it would need to be placed on the inside frame of the door rather than the outside for appearance sake.

Any one can assit me? The snow came in one side for several weeks and we have a tiny snowdrift inside our garage.

Answer:

Go to your local garage door dealer and get what we call residential weatherstrip, it is a vinyl blocking about 2 inches wide, and 1/2 inches thick with a rubber flap on one end 1 inch long,, you nail it up flush with the edge of your door frame with the flapup against your door, that will seal it up for you. You can also get it in colors to match your door also to make it blend in better also..

How to repair my broken garage door?

January 16, 2008 – 2:46 am

The sliding hinge (it looks like a curved L - like a lever arm) that attaches from the motor to the door broke off its attachment to the garage door. It literally ripped off its attachment to the door.

What’s going to happen? Do I need to replace the entire door, or can I somehow replace the piece to which the hinge was attached?

Please give advice, hopefully if you’re a garage door repairman

Answer:

Your best bet would be to replace your bracket with a piece of pre punched angle iron, this spreads the pull out a little more and should hold as long as your door is not damaged.

Need help on my garage door!It is stoppend in cold weather.

January 14, 2008 – 6:08 am

My garage door only open one foot then stop.

The door is about 1.5 year history.when it gets very cold out , the remote will only open the door about 1 foot then stop. presing the remote button again will make the door go down. if i help the door past the 1 foot opening , it will go all the way up but i don’t feel any obstruction. it did this last winter when it was below 0 degrees.

Answer:

I think the main reasion is the weather, the garage door dont work since the cold weather.

I have found the door manual online and found that there were force adjustments on the unit that basically determine how much force to apply in either direction before aborting and going back to the previous position (whether it be up or down). A quick adjustment of the down force from a 3 (out of 8) to a 6 and my problem is completely resolved.

How to reset the garage door keypad?

January 14, 2008 – 4:42 am

I bought my son a garage door, but lost the keypad direction.

It is a Sears Craftsman 1/2HP garage door. So can any one assist me how to reset the garage door keypad? And do you have a place to find the direction?

Answer:

To set the code using the Premium control console:
1 Enter a four digit personal ID # of your choice on the keypad then press and hold ENTER.
2 While holding the ENTER button, press and hold the LIGHT button on the premium control console (the premium control console is the main opener button mounted in the garage probably near your door)
3 Continue holding the ENTER and LIGHT buttons while you press the
pushbar on the premium control console (now all theses buttons are
held)
4 When the motor units lights blink Release buttons - it has learned
the new code.  If bulbs are not installed you will hear two clicks.

To set the code using the ‘LEARN’ button (you will need a ladder & two
people doing this) you used the learn button to set the new remote.
1 press and release the learn button on the motor.  The learn
indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds
2 within 30 seconds enter a four digit personal ID number of your
choice ob the keypad then press and hold the ENTER button
3 Release the button when the motor unit lights blink If bulbs are not
installed you will hear two clicks.

Which is better garage door?

January 13, 2008 – 9:35 am

I have an old garage door, and it is now trashed. So I want to buy a new one!

I need some following function: My garage door opener will work on either panneled garage doors, or the single piece ones. I also want to install one of those automatic garage door lock devices, because I think garage doors are a major security risk.

So any one please assit me to buy a better garage door.

Answer:

Go with the track style. They are more secure, easy to lock, and much easier to install. Also, and I believe most important, they will actually give you a lot more clearance through the door area.

Maybe only some people need the clearnace function, but how ever it would a idea for you.

I get noisy on closing my garage door!

January 11, 2008 – 12:19 am

Recently my garage door opener was out sync of closing the garage door leaving about 2inches sapce above the ground.I pulled on the release cord and went ahead lowering the garage door to the ground. I reattached the opener mechanism and it now opens and shuts to the proper level.

But now the problem is the garage door geting a large noisy when closing

I want it to be as slient as it used to be. What should I do?

Answer:

use white litium grease and grease all moving points

In order to make sure all nuts and bolts are tight or not, you have to go over them. if this doesnt work, you should check for any touching joints( where the panels meet), to make sure that they are not binding each other.
