Our garage door will start to go down, and then will start to go back up. The spot that it stops is random, and it seems worse in colder weather. (We didn’t have any problems until it got cold- when we had another heat wave, it worked). It’s not the sensors at the bottom, we’ve checked those.
I found something on line about the tension, but it shows the springs on either side of the garage. Ours does not have the spring on either side. There seems to be just 1 spring, over the top of the door.
It’s a craftsman, if that helps.
Answer:
First,, unhook the door from the operator, and run it by hand, you should be able to stop the door at any height and it should stay there, if it is balanced properly. If it drops to the ground then you need to add winds to the spring until it stays where you stop it. After you get the door lubed, spray the spring at the top of the door and the rollers and the bearings that the shaft goes thru with a spray lube, ( do not put grease in the tracks)…. after the door is running properly, thennn start looking at the operator, if it just stops at random places, take a look at the down sensativity screw on the back of the operator,, it should be approximatly the 4 o’clock position to start with, that should be more than enough pressure to close the door then, if not, slowly bump up to 5 and then 6 if necessary. If it was your saftey eyes causeing the problems on your sears operator, the light bulb on the front of the operator would be blinking off and on a few times, let me know what happens… Good luck..
