How to stop my doging eating my fence?

January 27, 2008 – 6:03 pm

My fence is new 77 ft. It is wood fence, my dog like eating it then go to the next next door.

My neighbors won`d do a thing they just like a real trashy,So I have to find the solution myself.I don’t understand the next door dog is a male puppy and I have a female Chow in my yard with my bulldog. He gets along great with the dog they played before I replaced the rotten fence.

Answer:

Your dog obnviously formed a close friendship bond with the dog next door-dogs are very social and make friends apart from their sexual interests. You either have to find a way to keep your dog from getting to the fence by erecting a barrier or switch to a chainlink fence since you will not be able to break the behaviour.Your dog can smell and hear his friend and wants to play with him like before.Perhaps you can get the male puppy-offer to buy the puppy for a certain amount but if that is Not a consideration then maybe you can arrange playtimes with the next door puppy-where you bring the pup into your yard,. but that may backfire and intensify the problem. but it is worth a try. Naturally the ideal is to get the pup and make it part of your pet family. Next is to create a barrier where your dog can’t get to the fence or you can to cut down on expense make part of the backyard a chainlink but the height has to be 6ft so no dog can go over and if you do this and the dog(s) digs to gt out underneath thn must go deep into the ground and lay chicken wire into twhich also attaches to bottom of chainlink-you can consult a fence builder or Handyman who also does fences-can probably find a reasonable priced person to do this in the Service Guide of your local Newspaper-and is actually the best solution for your dog will be happy to be able to see and interact through the fence with the puppy and you’ll have no further damage.Wish you the best

My wood door swollen and wont close!

January 25, 2008 – 6:03 am

Last week my son punched our wooden door very hard.

Juse two days ago, the door has become tighter and tighter.

We tried to shav off the wood, and it got better for a few days.

However, eventually, it got tighter again! There is nothing wrong with the hinges. The door just seems to be getting too big for its frame. Shaving helps only temporarily. Could this have something to do with the way my son punched it last month (in one of his angry moods)? Or could it be, as he now claims, due to the weather?

Answer:

you’ve basically said your kid is an idiot who needs a beat down.:)
all wood doors as well as they age, and need snading and planing.

Why my garage door reopen while it hits the ground?

January 24, 2008 – 7:09 pm

My garage door will automatically reopens after it hits the ground.?

can any one assist telling me how to fix the garage door or what may be wrong. More often then not I am left sitting in my drive way clicking the remote to my garage door hoping on the next close that it will stay closed. For some reason when it hits the ground, it automatically reopens. i have checked the child saft sensors and their is nothing obstructing them. What might be wrong, hwo can i fix this?

This is a belt drive garage door opener. The doro and opener are about 6 moths old.

Answer:

When your garage door opens and closes there are two switches that it trips (one for when it opens and one for when it closes). These will normally be by the belt drive casing or near the railing at the sides. These can be adjusted forwards or backwards to control how far the door opens and how far it closes. What is probably causing your problem is that the switch that gets tripped when your garage door closes is too far forward allowing it to hit the ground before it trips the switch to stop the garage door. Garage doors have a pressure sensitive mechanism on them for safety reasons. If the door hits an object when it is closing it will stop and raise back up. This is so it won’t crush a kid or a person if they happed to be under the garage door when it closes. Since your switch to stop the garage door is too far forward or possibly broken your garage door sensors think the door has hit an obstruction when it hits the ground and therefore it raises. If adjusting the trigger switch doesn’t work, you might try adjusting the pressure it takes to send the garage door back up. It could possibly be too sensitive. That adjustment should be located on the garage door motor. Only adjust that AFTER you have already tried moving the trigger to stop the garage door when it closes.

How to refinish my entry wood door!

January 24, 2008 – 1:55 pm

I want to know how to refinish my entry wood door.

Yeah it is not a painted door. so can any one assist me?

Answer:

First sand it lightly to make all the old finishing material out,  especially if you don’t know what the original finish was.

You have to make all them out.Because it may not be compatable, if you don’t get it all off the new finish may blister or wrinkle.

Don’t sand through the thin layer of color or stain or you will be sanding all of that off to get an even color through the new finish coat. For entry door, espically exposed to moisture or sunlight I use Yachtsmen Varnish, it’s what they use on the wood trim on boats because it lasts. If you are really talented you can spray it, other than that you will have to brush it on, DO NOT TRY A ROLLER. A flat surface is best and put it on in applications that are thick enough to float out the brush marks but not excessive. Put on at least four coats and let it dry, I mean dry between coats, you may need to sand lightly between coats to remove any inperfections, if it isn’t dry it will curl up on the sandpaper and you will be sanding all that off. One application a day or it may be two days depending on temperature and humidity.

Garage door opener just hums..?

January 22, 2008 – 4:12 am

The Garage door of my house opener just hums… doesn’t lift the door.

The power is on,becasue the light on the garage door is still on.

The Remotes as well as the door opener on the wall all function same. I can manually lift the door.

Answer:

I think the situtation could be the gears are out and the motor is running but not moving the door. Take the cover off and if a bunch of white stuff falls out, the gears are gone. You can get gear kits for around 25-30 dollars depending on which brand you have

Does garage door opener must do auto-reverse when it rolls down?

January 22, 2008 – 3:59 am

My house buyer inspector checked my house garage door opener, and said that my garage door opener does not auto-reverse when some object (like hands) try to block at the bottom of the garage door when it rools down, but not interfering the laser beam !!

My garage door opener does reverse when laser beam detects anything when door goes down, but does not reverse when object are not in the middle of the laser sensors. Is this violating the building code ? Is this supposed to cause concerns of hosue inspection ? It is GENIE opener and do not know the model number, what can I do to make it reversable when object blocks, but not in between the laser sensor ?

Answer:

You need to reduce the downward force setting. Refer to your instruction manual. There are two dials on the panel, near where the wires go into the machine. Turn them a little, then test the door. You should be able to stop it with your hands, and make it reverse.
IT’s not violating the building code, but it’s something the buyers can use against you.

Why my garage door can not colse several times per day?

January 21, 2008 – 12:59 am

We have a Sears Garage Door Opener, and during the mid afternoon the door will not respond to either the remotes or the door closer in the garage. It just starts blinking and retracts back to open.

I am sure that it is the sunlight that is causing the problem, but we have already tried some of the normal fixes for that problem. Here is what we have tried, with no luck:

1) Replacing the sensors
2) Realigning the sensors
3) Toilet Paper rolls around sensors (to block out sun)

Aside from replacing the whole system, I am not sure what else to try.

Anyone have any good suggestions to fix this problem?

Answer:

If your sensors are causing the problem you should still be able to close the door by holding the wall button down until the door hits the ground. Not the remotes though, they are designed not to do this. They warn of this sunlight problem on Chamberlain operators, but I have never seen one do this. Chamberlains’ tech support # is 1-800-528-6563. Your down safety reverse might be set too low. Adjust it according to the owners’ manual. Let me know what you find.
