Steel Room Riddle?

February 24, 2008 – 9:32 pm

Imagine that you are recently kidnapped and you are put in a room completely made out of steel (the walls, ceiling, and floor). The only thing you have is a operating phone. You call for pizza, and ask them to hand deliver the pizza to you. You get the delivery, and you eat the pizza. But, the only question is how does it taste.
Hint: There are no doors or windows.
(I’m not sure what the answer is, so good luck)

Answer:

imaginary cause your imaging it all, you didn’t get kidnapped!

Can you suggestion the best material for sliding pation door?

February 24, 2008 – 9:23 pm

I am looking for a new sliding patio door.Which material would be better? Steel, vinyl, aluminum or wood?

Do you have issues with the blinds in-between the window? Now most sliding patio doors have this!

Is it hard to install a sliding patio door if it comes pre-hung or is it best to hire a pro?

I would have to take out my existing sliding patio door.
Is it hard to install a sliding patio door if it comes pre-hung or is it best to hire a pro?

Answer:

I am a pro and I can tell you it is hard to install any door but a patio door is by far the hardest.

The inside blinds are like anything else, there is no best answer, just preferences. If you want the window treatment out of the way and kids are not going to wreck the mechanism, the internal blinds are useful.

February 23, 2008 – 7:26 am

I need help for the wiring of my garage door. I keep trying all kinds of combinations but never get it right.
There is a Red, White and Black total of 3 terminals and so many wires so I’m lost.
if someone has a Lift-Master garage door opener, please send me a photo of the wiring of your garage door.(the back of the motor unit)
the wiring is too complex to explain so a photo will explain everything for me.

send it to snail33@gmail.com

thank you so much for the help

I have a question about oven door refacing!

February 23, 2008 – 7:13 am

We are getting ready to replace some of the appliances in our kitchen. The dishwasher, refrigerator and cook top really need to be replaced. The home also has a double oven that is about 7 years old and works fine. We don’t use the oven that much and it would seem a shame to spend $2k to $3k to buy a new double oven that we would rarely use if the current one works fine.

The problem is that it won’t match the new appliances (stainless steel, current oven is white). Are there any companies that can reface oven doors or provide trim to make it match?

Answer:

They make a covering for refrigerators that is like sticky back shelf paper, and is Stainless Steel. They probably make it for stoves too.I think it’s at Carol Writes .com .

Is steel perhaps for this?

February 23, 2008 – 6:46 am

Looking for ideas for closet doors to give a loft an industrial look? Steel perhaps?

Answer:

If you want a really heavy industrial look …. I would find some tin and cut with tin snips to fit the door. Find someone with tin press to make the doors the size you want. (They use these to put siding on houses.)

Then you could screw in some big bolts and hardware to hang things from the outside of the doors.

Also….if you are into recycling…..You could turn aluminum cans inside out and bend and shape them to make a sheet that you could then screw onto the door facing individually. This would keep the door very light weight. You could also take a hammer to ‘dent’ the aluminum to achieve a very textured look.

Another way to go is to use paint. They sell stainless steel paint for appliances for repairs or to paint white appliances to look like ’steel’.
I would use the paint…. then wrap the doors in heavy gauge wire in interesting patterns. This would give you the opportunity to be very artistic within the realm of the industrial design concept. Making the doors appear to have a very ‘heavy’ look… without actually being heavy.

Covering the door with pieces of metal ‘flashing’ in a wild and weird design would REALLY make it pop visually. You can buy ‘flashing’ in boxes of a dozen or so. They are really cool looking and come in many different colors and types of metal.

Look at the hardware store for these items.

About the heat resistant seal….

February 22, 2008 – 8:51 pm

Whrere to buy this kind of door? with the seal of wood burner. or where can i buy a heat resistant seal from?

Answer:

Check your yellow pages for a place that sells wood stoves…….or check on line for that matter.

there is a cord like door seal that comes in lengths you cut and glue around the door with some special glue. We had a Little Buck that we had to replace the seal on.

The cord looks like a woven rope, if that helps.

What is the fair price for this old house?

February 22, 2008 – 8:46 pm

What is a fair price for a wood storage shed 12×36 it has an entrance wood door and 4 regular house windows?

This 3 years old building has never been used. The owner of the building is going to move. So I want to know what is a fair price for this building. It looks like a med. size trailer. This is all wood and has been nailed not stapled.

If you need more information let me know. And hope you can give me suggestion. We really want to buy a own house at this time.

Answer:

I suggest you call some manufacturers who make similiar storage buildings and get some price quotes for new ones, including delivery costs. That gives you something to work with.

Even if he moves it for free [a considerable expense when you buy a used one andhave to pay extra for it] - if it is in top condition - you can expect to pay a pretty penny for it as it is larger than usual. In our area [s.e. GA] if it has been finished, insulated, with internal siding and electric outlets etc. expect to pay between 4 and 6K, possibly more depening on condition.

A thing to be aware off - if you are renting - check with your landlord first to make sure he will allow you putting it on the property. Also keep in mind that you will need to get it moved again when you are moving…

If it is your own property - keep in mind access - it will come on a large truck and if you are fenced in and have a narrow drive - it may not be able to get to the location on the property where you want it. You may have to dismantle fencing, remove trees, damage plantings etc. to bring it through your property to the location you want it at.

Lastly - ask for any garantees or repairs if it should be damaged in the process - which can easily happen during loading and unloading, especially if it is a homebuild one… I have bought 2 that were ready made and in one [the larger one 12×20] the floor
boards cracked and I ended up with a leak in the roof - but as I bought them new from the manufaturer, they took care of the damages. Sometimes it is better to buy new and pay a tad more, but have garantees, than to get one uses and have problems all around with it.

How to slove my garage door problem?

February 21, 2008 – 2:41 am

My garage door is like 11 years old almost. It just dawn on me that I use to just press the remote or the button inside the garage once and the door would either open or close automatically. With one push it will open but now I have to hold the button until it closes otherwise it just dances up and down. What is up with that?

Answer:

Have you ever oiled the spring or the joints? If not, get some WD40 and spray it on them. You should do this abotu 2 times a year. Could just be too much pressure on your spring. The other thing is that if your door has one of those electronic eye kid safety systems on it, it might just be dirty or slightly out of alignment.

If neither of those work, Id consider calling out a garage door service company to get a “tune up”.

Are these durable to wood doors?Yeah,Laminate and Thermofoil

February 21, 2008 – 2:16 am

I want to know wether they are druable to wood doors….

Was wandering if the laminate or thermofoil doors have disadvantages over wood doors. Will they tarnish easily or turn yellow, or peel easily, etc?

Any one can give me help?

Answer:

First the Laminate will most likely chip over time. In regards to the thermofoil doors, i had a customer with the exact questions and craftsmaid cabinets offer a lifetime finish on their doors from turning yellow or peeling. However, if you drop something on it and you damage it, you have to replace it. Wood doors will last a live time with proper care and maintenance. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions or want to see some pictures of the job where she chose those white cabinets.
