How to repair the holes of stripped wood in a wood jam where screws are?
Some of the holes in the wood that takes the screws that are holding up a door are stripped so the screws do not grab.
What can I do, other than changing the wood, to make the screw hold tight.
Can I have something else to put into the hole to make it take the screw?I am really tried thicker and longer screws with no luck.
Answer:
The toothpick trick will work for some holes, but it sounds like you really have some big holes there already. Go buy some wood glue and a piece of 1/4″ dowel. Drill out the holes to 1/4″, put some glue on a piece of dowel, and insert. Let the glue dry for 24 hours and then drill a new pilot hole for your screws.
