Garage Door Opener… Where’s The Remote Code?

I have a very old Genie garage door opener, Model 400. It’s very old… probably at least 20 years or more. The unit works just fine but I have no remote. I bought a universal remote but can’t find the code to program the remote. Where is the code located on the unit itself?

I have looked on the outside of the unit, except for the very top which is blocked by the top of the garage. Anyone know where the code is before I try to take it all apart looking?

I rent my home so theres no sense in buying a new one. I need to find a way to make this one work… hopefully :)

Thanks for all your help!

By the way, the push button inside the garage opens and closes the door properly. Just need the remote to work!

Answer:

open the back or side compartment
there you will find a group of pins or little levers sometimes they have # s under them or letters such as a then b then a then b and on and on and on they go a =1 b=2 so on and so on …good luck

That is correct normal a green or red little board with dip switches on it.
The remote should contain a board similiar inside it.
Set the codes the same and remote should then work.
It no dip switch, check controll panel for buttons and see if this is way activation works, this is how Genie models operate in the newer models.
You push button on front panel beneath Light cover, when it lights you then hold button on remote unit until the light on control panel blinks and then goes solid.
